My first ever public release. I had already been making music for ages at this point, but this is when I decided to bite the bullet. This, along with all of my releases until 2023, was made on my phone, using an app called Auxy. The workflow is so different to a traditional DAW, that I see these releases as separate from my music made in Logic.

Song one on release one. This is the first thing I made when I finally got my Auxy subscription in autumn 2018, which unlocks all synths and samples. I made it (or about 99% of it) in one day. I like the title but it kinda sucks now that I want to rebrand everything to being in snake_​case. Not sure quite how I’m gonna tackle it yet.

The title is a reference to how saccharine and sappy I thought this tune was when I made it. More icing than cake. I was struggling a lot to make a B‐side, but I had the percussion loop down first thing, and knew I had to use it. After several failed attempts which I might release at some point, I was happy enough with this one.

I really cringe at this title now. But the music is good. Three simple piano pieces in reverse chronological order.

I made this as an attempt to sound like deadmau5. I think it’s not quite there, but that’s good cause deadmau5 already exists.

I wanted to collect my finished or almost‐finished tunes that all were chill enough to go into a certain playlist. After giving the untitled ones names and importing them into Apple Music, I let myself go a bit and also gave the whole collection a name and cover art, based on Microsoft Teams, which I was using quite a lot for school because of the lockdown this was in the middle of. Then I decided, might as well release it then. I’m really happy with the track ordering on this. I think it flows really well.

This electric piano loop is one of my favourite things I’ve ever written. I couldn’t tell you how, and I couldn’t replicate it if I tried. Also this is my favourite kind of title. It’s like it almost means something, but it’s too strange to make sense of. It started out as a counterpart to a different track called ‘best day of my life’, which also might be released at some point.

To me, this is one of the highlights of the album, and emblematic of what I like most in music: where the really catchy or beautiful (in this case catchy) and really strange meet.

After having released the album, my parents were really unhappy with the connotations this title has. one of them being cunnilingus, the other MDMA use. I was aware of neither of these when I conceived of it. It’s supposed to literally be about cannibalism. Whatever, I think the other interpretations probably make it much better.

The epyrillic scale is the scale this song uses. … so that’s what I called it. At some point I wanted to change it, but it just didn’t feel right. This was the title now. The epyrillic scale is the smallest scale that contains the Super Mario Cadence, so really that’s the reason why it’s what the song uses. Nothing special, cause thousands of songs use that cadence. Oh well. Fun song.

My best friend, whom I love dearly, made this typo once, trying to type ‘orange juice’. I liked it enough to use as a title. It’s pretty neat. It was supposed to be dubstep‐y. I think I used a lot of melodic synths as percussion elements using automation.

Back when I still somewhat regularly checked out new UKF releases, I noticed how lazy most liquid drum ’n’ bass sounded to me. So, naturally, I decided to make a really lazy liquid drum ’n’ bass tune myself. Alternating kick and rim, some chords, sub bass, and done. It grew into something I actually quite liked, though, and I ended up putting it on here. I think it’s the one I finished last.

Just a pretty ambient piece. Far from my best. The bass is all over the place. The title is from a stupid poem I thought of in the shower. It’s good as a title, though.

We were watching a modern performance of Romeo and Juliet in school, and this is a pretty famous line from it I just thought sounds lovely. So I gave it as a title to this rather lovely tune. Ignore how the last two tracks both have ‘sun’ in their title.

I really like this little intro. It’s really strange in the best way, but has something visceral somehow. Very satisfying. I also like that the title track is on the second volume instead of the first. Just a little bit of a weird thing to do.

Another example of my favourite kind of title. The words on themselves make sense, but together they’re just a little too strange to fit together. Somehow even though I can’t imagine the concept, I think the vibe of a hypothetical soggy bouncy ball exactly matches with this tune.

Started as an experiment to make a soft ambient tune based on really loud sounding distorted drums. Ended up a bit Boards‐of‐Canada–esque. Boards of Canada is my favourite artist of all time btw.

This one really stands out from the rest. It’s probably the sparsest track I’ve ever made. Silence is an instrument too, kids.

Anagram of ‘i cannot understand you’. I spent some time and effort arranging the letters in a way I liked. The song itself started out when I listened to Autechre’s album Incunabula for the first time. Two chords into the track Autichre, I immediately pressed pause and made the chord progression how it continued in my head. That done, I pressed play again, and turns out, those are the only two chords in the song. Okay.

Blue Wonder is a brand of hygienic wipes. I just thought the name matched this tune very well. The arpeggio throughout is straight up stolen from Momentarily by No Mana, with one repeated note. I realised this well after the album was released. All in all a fairly standard the‐’00s‐idea‐of‐progressive‐house tune, but I quite like it.

Undertale reference. I like how the title of the last track ties into the title of the albums. 13 minutes and 19 seconds might be a bit too long, but. I mean it’s at the end of the record. You can leave any time you want. It’s whatever.

This is one I’d been sitting on for a LONG time. The vibe started out completely different from what it is now. I’m quite happy with what i turned it into. The guitar loop is really neat. That had been there from the start.

So, this ‘Auxy’ thing also had a community Discord server. It still exists but they’ve since rebranded to not be about Auxy anymore. It still is kinda but shh don’t tell them. Every year from 2022 onwards they’ve hosted a ‘Summer Splash’ event, where participants are randomly put in duos and have to make something in one week. The winners get on a compilation. We didn’t make it. The track is fine.

Amon Tobin released the stems of his track Metropole, released under one his aliases, Stone Giants, for anyone to remix. So, of course, I did. In a different server, I was talking about how trying to make a hybrid dubstep-shoegaze song would be an interesting challenge. So I decided to combine one and one. I’m quite happy with it, actually. Also the first thing made in Logic I released, apparently. Not counting soundtracks I contributed to various game jams here and there, or some remixes I did for some thing some time.

Summer Splash Volume 2, same story, except this time we were among the winners! I really like the tune. Chris’s vocals are great on it too. I cringe at the lyrics, though (sorry Chris), also the ones I wrote. I really wanna make a better version of it at some point. While recording the handclaps, my mother came in angrily because she heard it downstairs. She’s acyually still in the recording used in the final version, but there’s no way you could hear it. The title (which I came up with) is very stupid.

I could hardly leave it at only one, could I? This one is too long and I think it’s shrunk on me the most. However, once Amon and co. decided they liked the community remixes so much they actually wanted to release their favourites, this is one of the ones they picked!

My first release made in Auxy since 2022, this was a megacollaboration hosted by that community that’s DEFINITELY NOT about Auxy anymore, where the project is passed around every participant who adds a max of 32 bars. The 10th of its kind, apparently, but the first I was actively aware of. The theme was drum ’n’ bass, and I did the intro, as well as an emergency outro cause we had none. It’s pretty cool! We were split in two groups, and the other group made the A‐side, Iridescent. Silhouette will always be called ‘stink_sock’ in my heart.
